Tips for a Budget-Friendly House Relocation
House removals are pretty costly, aren’t they? What if we told you that there are ways to reduce the amount of cash that you have to part with in order to move from home point A to point B, without making any sort of compromise with your comfort or that of your family? Would that be something in which you might be interested?
Start planning and preparing as early as possible
The rule of the thumb is that the earlier you start planning, purchasing materials and booking services, the less money you will have to pay at the end of your moving day. Specialists suggest that the best time to start preparing for your upcoming relocation if you want to save money is at least three months prior to the set date. Make use of the early-bird promotions of local moving firms and of course, give yourself enough days to hunt for attractive offers on everything – from mover-per-hour rates to quality removal boxes. As you probably already know really well, last-minute ordeals in every case cost more.
Hire a van instead of a removal firm
When you are worried about fitting into your budget, you are likely to look for alternatives to traditional services that are going to cost you less. In the case of a domestic removal, the biggest money-saver is ditching the traditional full service moving firm and do most of the work – packing, heavy lifting, loading etc. on your own. It is not that strenuous, especially if you opt for a reliable van hire service in London. It will provide you with a vehicle suitable for transporting your goods while sparing you from a lot of the traditional expenses.
Pack your goods without help
Paying someone to dismantle and pack your furniture and other personal possessions is faster and easier, but if you want to save money, you might want to handle the job on your own. Some basic packing principles that you need to follow in such a case include:
- Always get at least 10 per cent more packing supplies than your initial estimate. It is better to have more boxes and bubble wrap than you need, instead of falling short in the middle of packing.
- Work a room at a time – move on to the next area of your house only when you are done with the one that you have already started packing.
- Label everything – in this way you will be able to efficiently load your boxes on the van. Additionally, when you arrive at your new place, you will not have a hard time finding everything that you need.
Sign up relatives and friends to help
If you cannot afford the help of professional movers, you can obtain the manpower necessary for lifting and loading the heavy boxes containing your possessions by asking some of your trusted friends and family members to give you a hand. You will be surprised how many of them will answer your call for assistance and how bonding the overall experience will be.
